Trump Wants Stricter Immigration Laws To Stop Future Terror Attacks.
Trump believes the Terror Attack Tuesday could have been prevented. It’s not the police or on a local level but through legislation that we could rid ourselves of potential Terrorist attacks, by dismantling the Diversity Lottery Program. The Bill was originally brought forth by Schumer back in 1990. There have been attempts to get rid of the bill but none have succeeded. Maybe in the face of this recent terrorist attack this bill will finally be dismantled, and something will finally be done.
Schumer responded to Trump trying to twist his intentions tweeting “I guess it’s not too soon to politicize a tragedy.” Clearly trying to attack Trump and deflect some of the heat for passing such a bad bill.
“The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program awards up to 50,000 individuals per year a visa for a green card, which bestows permanent residency in the US and is a path to citizenship. Visas are awarded by random selection in select countries to promote immigration from places that don’t otherwise send many immigrants to the US.”
Trump wants to change to a merit based immigration program that will better filter out the bad elements. He wants to get rid of the chain migration which is when a immigrant helps to bring more people with him. “We need strength, and “We need resolve” Trump said in regards to our need to get rid of this program. The President said he will be getting Congress to work on getting rid of the bill asap but we need Democrats to stop with their ‘obstructionist” ways.
The terrorist on Tuesday was a participant of The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program and a prime example of what a bad bill can do to America.
Earlier in the day, congressional Republicans also took aim at the diversity visa program.
“I’ve always been against it because it’s a random system to bring people into the United States,” Texas GOP Rep. Mike McCaul, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, said Wednesday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”
McCaul said he’s trying to abolish the roughly 25-year-old program and replace it with a merit-based one.
“I think this case just demonstrates why that is absolutely necessary,” he also said.
Saipov was among the maximum 50,000 people allowed into the U.S. every year under the State Department diversity visa program, which tilts toward “countries with historically low rates of immigration.”
McCaul spoke Wednesday just minutes after Trump called for a merit-based only immigration system and in part blamed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other congressional Democrats for the program.
“The terrorist came into our country through what is called the ‘Diversity Visa Lottery Program,’ a Chuck Schumer beauty. I want merit-based,” Trump tweeted.
“No more Democratic lottery,” Trump said in a follow-up tweet.
