At a Thursday White House event, Donald Trump answered Hillary Clinton’s criticism of his renovations and mocked Barack Obama’s jokes about “gold,” saying he personally funded exterior fixes, according to The Gateway Pundit (TGP).

“I don’t like her house either”

Asked about Clinton’s remarks, Trump replied, “I don’t like her house either. I know her house very well,” TGP reported.

Clinton’s “tacky” critique

According to TGP, Clinton recently called Trump’s White House look “so tackied up” and “a reflection of… his narcissistic personality,” alleging he added “gold embellishments all over the walls of the Oval Office.” TGP also quotes her describing the style as “reminiscent” of Saddam Hussein’s palaces and saying, “This is a man who… goes to, ‘Where can I add more gold?’”

Obama’s punchline—and Trump’s counter

TGP says Obama used a similar line: “What’s up with the gold? Everything, more gold! He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened up a Cheesecake Factory. It’s gold everywhere!”

Trump, per TGP, shot back that Obama “doesn’t know about dirt and filth… cracked stone… [or] broken windows.” He also said of Obama, “He doesn’t understand it because he’s not a smart guy… only a stupid person would run the country like that.”

“No gold… I paid for it”

Describing repairs, Trump said, “The building was beat up… I had very talented people that were able to do it, I paid for it, and we fixed up the exterior of the White House. There’s no gold, but there’s no cracks, there’s no broken stone,” according to TGP. He added that ornamentation “original from 1792” had been “broken or gone” and that there were “cracks in many windows.”

Ballroom talk and a monument move

TGP reports Trump “mused” about building a White House ballroom he said would be “the best in the entire world,” comparing it to the Great Hall of China.

The outlet also reports Trump signed a proclamation designating the Oval Office and Cabinet Room as federal landmarks and National Monuments during the event.
