Well, it appears that the 2024 GOP primary has already started even though nobody has announced they are running.
Former Vice President Mike Pence recently announced his new policy platform and took a jab at former President Trump in the process.
The move appears selfish, we haven’t even gotten through the 2022 midterms yet and Pence is swiping at Trump.
“Elections are about the future, and frankly the opposition would love nothing more for conservatives to talk about the past or to talk of the mess they’ve made of the president,” Pence said to numerous news outlets during a conference call.
“And I think by relentlessly focusing on the future we can stop the radical left, we can turn this country around, we can win the Congress and statehouses back in 2022, and we can win back America in 2024 and beyond,” he added.
Pence’s platform does mention election reform but never mentions the 2020 presidential election. The former Vice President’s policy requires mandatory voter identification and would require that mail-in voting be used in “rare” circumstances.
Then Pence took a swipe at Trump by taking his words out of context.
His platform also takes a stand against Russian President Vladimir Putin, who Trump recently described as a “genius.” It says that “Russia harms American interests by threatening American allies,” and that “Putin undermines freedom and democracy at home and abroad.”
What Trump said was out of context, he never supported the Russian president he merely brought to light the fact that Putin invaded because Joe is weak.
But that’s not stopping Pence from taking digs at Trump. During a appearance at a Republican National Committee retreat in New Orleans Pence said that “elections are about the future” and there was “no room in this party for apologists for Putin.”
“He strongly believes it’s important to have a forward-looking agenda for the American people and not look backward,” Marc Short, Pence’s former chief of staff, said.
In a recent poll, Pence placed third in a GOP primary behind Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Note that Trump is focusing on the midterms and DeSantis is engaging in weekly battles with Biden Administration. Neither of the two have mentioned 2024 and are focused on the present. Unlike Pence who can’t seem to even wait until the midterms end.
