Nikki Haley Sets The Record Straight And Makes Sure The U.N. Knows It’s Place.
Nikki Haley, the Current US Ambassador to The UN, addressed The UN assembly and made them aware that this is a strong Administration that would not be pulling it’s punching as Obama did. Every year the UN votes for the US to end its trading embargo with Cuba and every year the US opposes the vote. That is until last year when Obama had America ‘Abstain.’ Samantha Powers The US ambassador to The UN at the time stated:
“Rather than try to close off Cuba from the rest of the world, we want the world of opportunities and ideas open to the people of Cuba. After 50-plus years of pursuing the path of isolation, we have chosen to take the path of engagement.”
This year Haley set out to right that wrong and set the record straight. She moved to oppose the resolution as had been rightfully done 24 times before Obama tried to soften our stance on The Cuban Embargo.
“For this, each year, this assembly’s time is wasted considering this resolution. And the United States is subjected to all manner of ridiculous claims. Anything to deflect the blame from the regime that is truly responsible for the suffering of the Cuban people. But the United States will not be distracted. We will not lose sight of what stands between the Cuban people and the free and democratic future that is their right,” Haley told the assembly.
Haley went on to express her feelings to The UN for their constant opposition to the Cuban Trading embargo.
“This Assembly does not have the power to end the US embargo. It is based on US law which only the United States Congress can change. No, what the General Assembly is doing today, what it does every year at this time, is political theater.”
After The UN shifted uncomfortably trying to get over that burn Nikki Haley finished with the same bravado.
“When the United States abstained on this resolution last year, its decision was explained by saying, “We recognize that the future of the island lies in the hands of the Cuban people.” There is a casual cruelty to that remark for which I am profoundly sorry. Regrettably, as of today, the future of Cuba is not in your hands. It remains in the hands of your dictators. The United States opposes this resolution today in continued solidarity with the Cuban people and in the hope that they will one day be free to choose their own destiny.
We might stand alone today. But when the day of freedom comes for the Cuban people — and it will come — we will rejoice with them as only a free people can.”

The Trump Administration was right to put their faith in Haley as she will not only stand up for what is right, she will also make those like The UN that try and undermine the will of American people know they are on notice. This Administration will not tolerate an alliance with a dictatorship, no it will stand for the free people of Cuba. America stands behind and for Freedom.
