DeSantis’ warning
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis posted on X on Nov. 4, 2026: “Dems will get 55 Senate seats and 250+ House seats. Looking at the Senate map and considering such a massive House margin, it is very unlikely Republicans will recapture the Congress in 2028. Might not have a shot at Senate control until 2032.” (Source: @RonDeSantis on X, as quoted by The Gateway Pundit.)

What he cited
Jim Hoft of The Gateway Pundit wrote that DeSantis attached a New York Times graphic tracking remaining races. According to Hoft’s description, the NYT forecast in that image showed Democrats projected to “win or lead” in 54 Senate seats (with two tossups) and in 254 House seats (with nine tossups or other), versus Republicans at 44 Senate and 172 House.
Calls and estimates reported by TGP
The Gateway Pundit said NBC estimates circulating late Tuesday pointed to Democrats capturing roughly 248 House seats to Republicans’ 187. The outlet also reported that Decision Desk HQ and other organizations called the U.S. House for Democrats earlier in the evening.
Senate flips TGP highlighted
Hoft reported that Democrats were projected to win Senate races in states that have been Republican strongholds, including Texas, Ohio, Kansas, Iowa, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Maine. The article highlighted an Iowa result in which Democrat Josh Turek defeated Republican Ashley Hinson, flipping the seat held by retiring Sen. Joni Ernst, as well as reported flips in South Carolina (Annie Andrews over appointed Sen. Darline Graham) and Maine (Troy Jackson over Sen. Susan Collins).
Handle with caution
The Gateway Pundit noted that the figures described above were projections and estimates, not final certified results.
