In Fort Myers, Florida, a crazed woke vegan has been convicted of murder and will be in prison for the rest of her life.
Sheila O’Leary, 38, whose family obeyed a strict vegan diet, was convicted in June of 2022 of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter, child abuse, and two counts of child neglect in the death of Ezra O’Leary.
Her sentencing had been postponed four times, but justice prevailed, and the mother of three has finally received a life sentence.
Ryan Patrick O’Leary, the husband of Sheila, remains in jail and is awaiting trial on similar charges.
Investigators said the couple told them the family ate only raw fruits and vegetables, although the toddler also was fed breast milk. The 18-month-old boy weighed 17 pounds (8 kilograms) and was the size of a 7-month-old baby when he died in September 2019, a police report said.
The Cape Coral couple had two other children, ages 3 and 5, who also were malnourished, investigators said. A fourth child had been returned to her biological father during an earlier malnutrition case in Virginia, court records show.
Attorneys for the O’Learys claim that this is all one big misunderstanding and that the couple didn’t mean to starve their kids and kill their son.
“The child’s death, while tragic, was neither purposeful nor neglectful, but accidental, and is listed on the death certificate as such,” attorney John Musca, who represented Sheila O’Leary, said in a statement to local TV station WFTX.
Cape Coral police responded to the home of the O’Learys on September 27th, 2019, because an 18th-month-old boy had stopped breathing. The child was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives at the scene saw the extreme state of malnourishment of the child that had passed and the other kids. The siblings were immediately removed from the home for their safety.
On November 6th, 2019, both Sheila and Ryan were charged.
