Super-Volcano Could Destroy Mankind And It’s Right Here In The U.S.

NASA Plans To Save Humanity.

Yellowstone Park a picturesque piece of raw American Wilderness with a memorable geyser Old Faithful. The vast forest and bison roaming the area, it’s an American Treasure. Below that beautiful serene surface awaits the potential Humanity killer.

The threat to humanity is a super volcano. The Super Volcano under Yellowstone is not anything new it has been a looming threat to scientists for years. One of the big questions on everyone’s mind is when. The answer officials say is unclear. Although Yellowstone is heavily monitored in efforts to track the active supervolcano below, there are no records of when or how often the super volcano will erupt. It will greatly affect humanity.

Some Scientists believe that when the supervolcano erupts it might not cause a worldwide level of extinction but it will definitely kill a massive amount of Americans. It could also potentially block out the sun for a time and cover a large percentage of the US in ashes. The ashes in this theory would be layered 4 inches thick, killing off most plants.

Planning For The Future.

Scientists are hard-pressed to find a solution to this problem. Nasa has come up with a couple possible solutions/plans to prevent the eruption. The plan is to cool down the volcano with high-pressurized water.

In the first plan, they drill down about 6miles into the supervolcano and shoot high pressurized water down into the volcano thereby cooling it. Cooling the Volcano will help to stop an eruption. “Nasa estimates that if a 35% increase in heat transfer could be achieved from its magma chamber, Yellowstone would no longer pose a threat.”

Critics of the first plan believe drilling down into the volcano may increase the likelihood of an eruption. They believe that it could make the volcano more brittle and likely to erupt.

Plan two has the same goal to decrease heat but in method 2, they would be drilling the sides far from the top.  There are concerns about water usage and cost as it is a scarce resource in the area.

The NASA plan would cost nearly 5 billion but could save millions of lives. To counteract costs scientist theorize that a geothermal plant could be built over the drill site.

Nasa’s scientists are hoping that their blueprints will encourage more practical scientific discussion and debate for tackling the threat.

“When people first considered the idea of defending the Earth from an asteroid impact, they reacted in a similar way to the supervolcano threat,” Wilcox says. “People thought, ‘As puny as we are, how can humans possibly prevent an asteroid from hitting the Earth.’ Well, it turns out if you engineer something which pushes very slightly for a very long time, you can make the asteroid miss the Earth.

So the problem turns out to be easier than people think. In both cases, it requires the scientific community to invest brain power and you have to start early. But Yellowstone explodes roughly every 600,000 years, and it is about 600,000 years since it last exploded, which should cause us to sit up and take notice.”
