In late 2020, the city council of Washington DC laid the groundwork to vaccinate children without the consent of their parents or guardians. The measure also allows physician to keep parents from finding out their child was immunized.

On December 23, 2020 DC Mayor Muriel Bowser signed into law a measure that would allow kids as young as 11 years old to get vaccinated without parental consent. The measure also allows kids to not inform their parents of the vaccination and doctors will be able to directly bill insurers to prevent parents from learning what happened.

From WUSA 9 a DC CBS affiliate:

The bill would give kids as young as 11 years old the green light to get a vaccination without parental consent if a doctor recommends it. The doctor would also determine if the child meets a certain standard of “informed consent” before administering the vaccine.

To prevent the parents from knowing, health providers would be required to bill insurers directly and send vaccination records to the school.

New jersey, New York, and Minnesota have also passed or have pending bills moving through the legislative process that would allow minors as young as 12 to receive the COVID vaccine without their parents knowledge.

The New York Times reported:

The District of Columbia Council voted to allow children as young as 11 to get recommended vaccines without parental consent. The New Jersey and New York legislatures have bills pending that would allow children as young as 14 to consent to vaccines; Minnesota has one that would permit some children as young as 12 to consent to Covid shots.

The FDA has approved the coronavirus vaccines for children as young as five and we these measures in place children could be vaccinate without their parents ever knowing.

Mother Asha Pinkney Gillus who has two children in public school is against the policy but is now at its mercy.

“I am 100% against that [the bill],” Gillus said. “I think it violates my fundamental right as a parent to manage the upbringing and the health and welfare of my child.”
